Interview in the PGE_Scribbler

The interview in the PGE_Scribbler of february 2010:

My name is Désirée Dekkers. I live in The Netherlands.
For about 33 years ago I had a drawing-teacher on Highschool, who was very patient.

He, as an artist, knew oh so well that inspiration was a thing that comes and goes as it pleases.
So for weeks I was sitting on the table chatting my time away, until the inspiration came along and I had to work every spare minute.
But since I left Highschool I had not drawn or painted anything.

One day my husband saw some of the drawings I had made during my Highschool-periode and was impressed.
So 3 years ago he bought me a starting-set of drawing-materials and gave that as a birthday present.

The first half year I started to experiment.
I was mostly entriged by the pastels. I had never worked with that medium before, but it felt good rightaway.
I took about 10 lessons with a local artist to learn more about pastel and how to work with it on paper.
From there my journey of experimenting continued. And I also started to combine other materials with pastel.

I got inspired by the impressionists and other great painters like William Henry Singer. He also worked with pastel on canvas. Something I want to try out one day for sure!
Beside this I read “The Pastel Journal” and became a member of PGE, to learn from the way how other artists perform.
And whenever there is a exposition of pastel paintings in my surroundings, I will pay a visite.

For my paintings I get my inspiration out of the things that strike me in daily live. Therefore the subject of my paintings differ much.
