Sleepless nights...

Already my third exhibition. I am busy with the preparations.

It will take place in “Zorgcentrum Aelsmeer”, in the town Aalsmeer. It’s a beautiful location for an exhibition, which I may use. It’s in the connection between the two different facilities.

It looked as if I still had plenty of time left. But when I turned the calendar on to November, I painfuly realized that it’s only a few weeks from the end of the year.

1 January 2012 the exposition must be ready!

Sleepless nights...

Determine a theme and select the paintings. Realizing that there are still some paintings to be made……
To make sure that everything is neatly framed.

Why are the days so short!?!

I had to make a text to tell something about me, the pastel and my paintings. It’s finished and delivered to the organizer of the exhibition.
They will place it on their website and in their newspaper in the second half of December.

Still have to contact the local media...

but still I have some time left …

The title for this third exhibition has become: "Ode to".

Yes, it’s a big challenge to prepare everything to get a beautiful exhibition.
But oh, how I enjoy it!

Open atelier: Portrait of Federica.

On Friday 28 October 2011 I visited the open atelier "portrait" at SAKB.

Federica Dauri, the Italian dancer whom I drew earlier this year, posed for us.
See also my article dated June 25, 2011: "Workshop: To draw the movement of two dancers."

Now her hair was cut super short! A real challenge such an almost uncovered head.
The forms of her face therefore come forward very well.

During the 2 poses of 1 hour each, the portrait had to be finished. Mine was finished for about 90%.
During the poses I only worked with charcoal on paper.

At home I have added some last details. In this stage I’ve worked with charcoal and also used pastel. For the portrait I’ve used the colours black and white, for the background I’ve used light grey, light grey-green and white.

Next time I will also take a photo of the posed position as a guid. That gives me also the opportunity to show you the “live” model.

Life drawing with charcoal.

During the workshop: Life drawing with charcoal. Photo made by: Willeke Frima.

At the SAKB in Amstelveen I followed the workshop: Life drawing with charcoal, which was held from  26th until 29th August 2011, during 4 afternoons.
The teacher during this workshop was: Willeke Frima.
As the group was small, everyone got plenty of guidance and explanation.
There were several sessions, where the model posed in different ways. The sessions varied in time and so we learned different ways to draw the model.
Also thanks to Helena Both, who has posed for us during these 4 afternoons, we had a wonderfull time.

Workshop: To draw the movement of two dancers.

On Saturday June 25th 2011 Edgar Jansen had organized a workshop:
To draw the movement of two dancers.
It was at the location of the SAKB (Stichting Amstelveense Kunstbelangen).

As always, Edgar had provided two splendid models.

The two dancers, named Federica Dauri and Stefano Taiuti, were both from Italy. They are in The Netherlands for about one year to increase their knowledge and skill of dance.

From left to right: Edgar, some students, Stefano and Federica.

Professional and full of passion they performed their dances for us.
Now and then we were so fascinated by the performance of Stefano and Federica, that we almost forgot to be creative ourselfs and to draw their movements on paper.

It has been a very succesfull workshop that I highly recommend.

A big thank you goes to the photographer, Joop van Klaveren, for the beautiful pictures he made, by which I can make you part of this event.
