The old rose-shears

Behind some objects there is a story. I collect these stories in my direct surroundings and make a painting based on that.
“Brass pot in embrasure” is an example of that. Now “The old rose-shears” is added to the list.

In my husbands family were many rose-growers. So also his grandad.

Years ago my mother in law gave me the rose-shears, with which had been worked.

The special thing
 about the rose-shears, in comparison to



pruning-shears, is that the cliped rose want fall on the ground once it is cut.
After the clipping
they brought the roses to the rose-shed. From where you had a view on the roses in the greenhouse.


On the rose-table the roses were sorted out on quality and length and after that they were tied together.

An other striking thing about the rose-shears is the fact that you cannot put it flat on the table. The shears has it’s turningpoint around a pin, which sticks out on both sides. That is why it always seems “to hover” above the table, ready to pick up and use.
